10 Steps To Marketing Success For Artists

Are you an artist who wants more of their art than just hobby? Then you get an interest in your job to produce income, it’s a must. In order to do this, you need marketing and promotional success, which will enable you to earn an income from your artistic output.

Today we will talk about 10 ways to get a market for your work and where you can learn more about what is expected of you to be successful.

1.

Before you do any painting, you pay the time to do your market research. One of the biggest reasons for artists who are not in their pursuit of being professional is a lack of understanding of what the market wants. Do not be so arrogant to assume you know everything and what you paint is right.

The chance is that it is not, so do not take anything. Go there in the world and see what is being offered and, more about, what sells. Galleries are full of photos that do not sell, so ignore it. Ask the owner to show you what’s best selling and why and who?

2.

Secondly, remember that what you see for sale has been created for last season. Most gallery stocks today print for the mass market, so you need to know what’s next, rather than what’s on the show today. Imagine taking inspiration from a style that appears on the screen just to return with a new offer to tell that it is now an old hat.

3.

Make sure you visit the trade shows to see what publishers, independents and importers are offering the next season market. Even this will take you a step as the artists on the screen already work on the following seasons ideas.

However, by taking the bursary you can at least sell to the galleries armed in colors and themes. More importantly, talk to the publishers about your work and ask them about the process of proposing yourself for consideration.

4.

If you are happy to sell your work as an original, you must form relationships with good and reliable galleries. The value of art is in the perception of the viewer. For example, if you hang your work in an exclusive gallery, you will expect to give a much higher price than in your local town, side street, so high and get the best wall space you can.

Talk to several gallery owners and listen to what they should say. Most will be honest about your work and tell you exactly how likely it is to sell in their business. Wall space is valuable so they will not waste. You will need a thick skin, so be prepared for hard criticism. No matter who you are, some will love your work while others will hate it.

5.

Discuss a fair retail price based on a fair price for you and the gallery. If you’re happy with a price, do not start flashing when the gallery says they’ll sell it for maybe more than double your price. They must charge taxes, then cover all their expenses and really find a buyer before they see any profit for their problems. So, do not ignore their part.

6.

Where your work is on the scene, make an effort to accompany it so that you can talk to prospective clients. Kunskopers like to meet the artist personally and you can do very well by just setting a look at the weekend. Talk to the Gallery, they will welcome such suggestions.

7.

If you sell your work yourself, take every opportunity to get exposure. An excellent new way to do this is through a fantastic new website facility called DebutDay.com (www.debutday.com).

This website is dedicated to bringing artists to the attention of the world by defeating the search engine process and proposing to anyone looking for the latest on the market. It’s cheap and you can control what you display and how to offer yourself.

This is probably the most proactive website to come over a long time and will do so much to give you an opportunity to sell it to the general public. If you are serious about your art, you should use this site.

8.

When creating new works, try a theme for a collection. Some pieces do little to help the buy-public form to give an opinion about you or your work. Some will want to find an artist to collect, so if they can not see more than one example of your work, they will find it hard to do.

So do not settle for a painting, aim for at least three or four in a set, it will do a lot for your credibility and will greatly help your success.

9.

Whatever you offer for sale, make sure that it is accompanied by a title and a written explanation. The buyer likes a story, helping them understand your work, get more of the images and, believe it or not, such background information will help them with a good subconscious reason for the purchase. Your information will make them an informed buyer. It allows them to impress their friends when they call.

10.

Finally, in my experience the biggest mistakes artists make is to try and anything they are or to try and the public are so convinced. If you paint a woman with an eye on the side of her head, you do not make Picasso, so try not. Artists like him are so famous for their creation of the style as they are for any integral artistic ability.

The first line of creativity is to be true to yourself, uninterrupted by the need to meet what others expect or may be considered as art. If you do not allow this right of expression, you will rarely get joy in the painting.

But then you should be able to walk out of the right and find a way to utilize your talent in a commercial manner, which may be more likely to support you until your own passions are recognized as desirable enough in their own right to earn you a living.
