British PM Trying to ‘Downplay’ the Covid-19 Testing Data System Failure
Windowofworld.com – British PM, Boris Johnson is trying to downplay a failure in the UK’s Covid-19 testing data system which delayed 15,841 test results. He said the latest, much higher figure is more in line with estimates of the spread of the outbreak.
A technical glitch, identified on Friday and now resolved, resulted in 15,841 cases not being uploaded to the reporting dashboard used by the National Health Service (NHS) contact tracing system.
These errors are likely to raise further doubts over Johnson’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Johnson administration’s response has been seen as slow by political opponents, disorganized and confusing.
“The incidents we have seen in these cases are exactly what we thought,” Johnson said in a statement, as reported by Reuters on Monday (5/10/2020).
“To be honest, I think the slightly lower figure we saw doesn’t really reflect where we think the disease is likely to go, so I think these numbers are realistic. Health Secretary Matt Hancock will update parliament on this incident, “he continued.
Asked about vaccines, Johnson said that the AstraZeneca project must be on the threshold of one. “We are working very hard to get it. We are not there yet,” he said.
“I went to see the scientists at Oxford at the Jenner Institute, the AstraZeneca team, it’s amazing what they do. You really feel like they are definitely on the threshold, but it has to be tested properly,” he said.
