Chinese Elderly Buy Tour Tickets, Instead Take a Walk to the Cemetery
Windowofworld.com – Authorities in China are investigating how a group of elderly tourists bought tickets for a tour, only to be taken on a trip to the cemetery.
The elderly group paid 18 yuan (Rp.40,000) per person for the trip including lunch.
But they were shocked when they arrived at the funeral and were promoted to sell the funeral place.
The local tourism commission said the tour company did not have the appropriate permits.
The city government has since pledged to crack down on similar behavior.
A man surnamed Zheng told local media that he was invited to the tour by a travel agency named Longyao.
He told his friends about the tour offer and they all joined the tour.
Video footage taken on the bus showed the group of elderly people singing and smiling the day they walked out of the nursing home for a walk.
But when they arrived at the “beautiful place” the tour company had promised, it turned out to be a grave.
“We are tourists, why do you ask us to visit the cemetery?” said one member of the tour group to local media.
Zheng reported the tour operator to the Chongqing tourism and culture development committee which has been carrying out an investigation into the strange incident.
It said the Longyao tour company did not have the appropriate permits to conduct the tour and promised to investigate the case further and fully verify the group’s complaint.
“In response, the Chongqing municipal government said it would crack down on any behavior that violates the rights of tourists and damages the city’s image,” said the Global Times report.
This is not the first time a tour in China has caused controversy.
In 2015, a Chinese tour guide was stripped of his license after he was caught on camera scolding tourists for not spending enough money on shopping.
