FBI Agent Shoots Armed Man Trying to Enter CIA Headquarters
Windowofworld.com – FBI agents shoot a gunman trying to enter United States (US) CIA headquarters. The gunfire was fired after the gunman engaged in negotiations for hours with security forces to enter the intelligence headquarters.
An unidentified gunman drove through the initial gate to the vast CIA jungle complex outside Washington on Monday afternoon.
The security personnel tried to negotiate with the man to surrender. The negotiations lasted several hours.
“The individual emerged from his vehicle armed,” the FBI said in a statement.
As a result of gunfire by FBI agents, the gunman was injured and has been taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Earlier, a CIA spokesman confirmed the situation outside the complex’s secure perimeter, several hundred meters from the intelligence agency’s main headquarters.
“Our compound remains secured, and our Security Protection Officers who handled the incident were the only agency personnel who were directly involved,” the CIA said, as quoted by AFP, Tuesday (4/5/2021).
Security has been stepped up in recent years at the CIA headquarters, which is located in Langley, Virginia off a busy road.
In 1993, a Pakistani man, Mir Aimal Kansi, shot dead two agency employees and injured three others as they sat in a car waiting at a red light to enter the compound.
Kansi fled back to Pakistan and was only found and arrested four years later. He was extradited to the United States, where he was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. He was executed in 2002.
