How someone Engage in a lively discussion

I found the best way to get someone to respond positively to you, HOLD;

Seriously! It’s so easy !!! Plus, it works.

Ive recently started a new post as a professional headhunter. I have always done professional networking and marketing for individuals, but have now joined a new firm. Most of what I do now is COLD CALL. UGH..the dreaded COLD CALL.

What does it consist of? Hi! My name is Mary Gardner and I am an XYZ business, who is the director of operations? From there, I ask questions and gather information until I find the right person on the phone who takes a serious interest in my candidate as I market.

The difference I saw in my first few days was that I died the first day I died. I didn’t feel ready. I was unprepared. I wasn’t away from the procedures and didn’t even feel comfortable with the phone. This is what happened: the first few calls .. people almost hung me up. They do not have the tolerance for a person with no confidence.

Today I relaxed. I have committed myself to having fun and to enjoying the people we meet. I can do this by favoring them over the phone and acting excited to talk to them, even though I had no idea who they are and what they did. And guess what? It worked! I talked to many gatekeepers as we called them, or administrative people who shared all the information I wanted about the business. I used their NAME in the conversation! I asked how they were doing and did not ignore them. I asked about the weather in southern Florida and laughed with them when they forgot if it was their morning or afternoon greeting. I really just enjoyed all the people I met. And guess what?

They love me back !!! I expressed enthusiasm as I talked to them and to them, and they responded kindly. It was so much nicer to talk to them when I stopped thinking about myself and my nerves, and started thinking about them !!!

Of course, I did all the standard things you do in small talk! I asked them questions and I listened to them attentively. I asked about them or their company or the weather if they were having a good day, but I showed interest in them and their lives. It was key today to enjoy new people and to make them feel comfortable with me.

I liked it.

How about you? Express your interest and curiosity to others? Are you excited to talk to them? Are you interested in their response? Do you laugh at their jokes? Do you really want to show that person that he is right in your book?

You might find what I found. A day of potential stress can be a day full of fun.
