ISIS Bomber Explodes himself in Iraqi Market on Takbiran Night, 35 dead
Windowofworld.com – A suicide bomb attack killed at least 35 people and injured dozens in a busy market in Sadr City, Baghdad, Iraq on Monday, ahead of the Eid al-Adha celebrations. This was disclosed by security sources and local hospitals.
“More than 60 people were injured,” said a police source as quoted by Al Arabiya, Tuesday (20/7/2021).
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack, the group’s news agency Nasheer said on Telegram. It said one of the insurgents detonated his explosive vest in the crowd.
Hospital sources said the death toll could rise as some of the injured were in critical condition.

In a brief statement, the Iraqi prime minister’s office said Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi held an urgent meeting with top security commanders to discuss the attack.
“With their horrific crimes they targeted civilians in Sadr city on the eve of Eid al-Adha. We will not rest until terrorism is cut off from its roots,” President Barham Salih said in a tweet.
In April, the Islamic State group also claimed responsibility for a car bomb attack on a market in Sadr City, a Shiite neighborhood of Baghdad, which killed four people and injured 20.
ISIS also claimed responsibility for a bomb attack last January that killed more than 30 people in the bustling Tayaran Square market in central Baghdad – Iraq’s first major suicide bombing in three years.
Major bomb attacks used to be almost daily in the Iraqi capital but have decreased since the ISIS invasion of northern and western Iraq was defeated in 2017.
