Left Brain and Right Brain Functions

Windowofworld.com – The brain is divided into two sides, namely the left brain and right brain. This very important and complex organ has certain parts with their respective functions in the body.

The cerebrum consists of the left brain and right brain which are important for carrying out daily human activities. Research shows, the left brain is more used for logical thinking processes and in language, while the right brain is more involved in intuitive and visual processes.

Get to know the functions of the left brain and right brain deeper

The existence of two hemispheres on the left and right underlies the theory of the left brain and right brain. If you think more methodically and analytically, then your left brain may be more dominant. Meanwhile, if you are used to thinking about creative or artistic things on a daily basis, it means that your right brain may be more dominant. But in fact, the two parts of the brain are complementary and both have an important role.

Based on differences in the function of the right and left brain, there is a theory that states that a person can be dominated by the left brain or right brain and this then has an impact on his personality and abilities.

Based on this theory, the difference if one of the functions of the right brain or left brain is more dominant in a person, can be seen from:

Left brain

  • Better at doing activities such as reading, writing, counting
  • Think more using logic
  • More good at math
  • More concerned with facts

Right brain:

  • A lot of imagination
  • Often daydreaming of looking for ideas
  • Tend to like art

More often use intuition to understand something

Is it true that every human being has a more dominant side of the brain?
There are many opinions regarding the theory of the right and left brain and their influence on the field of human work. The theory states that each part of the brain controls different ways of thinking and that each part can determine the characteristics, even the type of work that is right for each person. But can this theory be justified scientifically?

The results of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans did not indicate that one part of the brain dominates or affects a person’s personality. The results of research conducted by a neurologist, found no evidence to support the dominant theory of right brain or left brain.

The two sides of the brain are connected and communicate. People whose left brains are more active have the same number of neural networks on the right. Vice versa.

The research confirms that each part of the brain has its own function. For example, the right brain is in charge of focusing on following directions, while the left brain plays a role in carrying out language functions. However, that does not mean that one side of the brain is more dominant. Thus there is no relationship between right brain versus left brain dominance of human personality types.

The left brain and right brain are equally active in humans in carrying out their activities. Hence, it would be better to maximize the function of the two synergistically, rather than sorting out their functions separately.
