Liverpool Reportedly Will Enter Level Three Lockdown Related to Covid-19
Windowofworld.com – The Liverpool region will reportedly enter a third level of lockdown in the near future to curb the spread of Covid-19. The third tier is the highest level of lockdown status in the UK.
In a joint statement, Liverpool leaders, including Mayor Steve Rotheram, said the government had decided that further measures and a lockdown would soon be implemented in the Liverpool City Area.
“Pubs and bars, betting shops, casinos and adult gaming centers and gyms will be closed,” said the statement.
They say the leave scheme announced by UK Finance Minister Rishi Sunak is inadequate. “Businesses in the regions, especially those engaged in the hotel sector and those who serve them, will be damaged, and many will suffer long-term damage or close forever,” he said.
Liverpool leaders, in a later statement said they had agreed with London to remain in dialogue, to establish a “mutually agreed” package of financial support to mitigate the impact of the new tier three restrictions.
“We also need a clear definition of an exit strategy from this phase three,” he said.
Regarding the lockdown, previously the World Health Organization (WHO) Special Envoy from England, David Nabarro called on the world to immediately lift the lockdown. He said the war against Covid-19 would not be won with tougher rules that seek to control people’s behavior.
Nabarro has warned governments around the world against imposing stricter rules, arguing that people should support the restrictions needed to slow the spread of the virus.
He said that the lockdown would make people poorer. “I want to say again that we at WHO do not recommend lockdowns as the main way to control this virus,” he said.
