Michelle Rodriguez says she had ‘forced’ ‘Fast and Furious’ to be rewritten
Windowofworld.com – 42-year-old actress asks for “Fast And Furious” 2001 to be rewritten. Because according to him, the character he played didn’t feel his representation in the film.
Michelle Rodriguez has become a familiar figure to fans of the “Fast and Furious” franchise. Who would have thought that this particular actress always prioritizes women’s empowerment in her work.
He also encouraged the same thing to be done in the making of the film “Fast and Furious”. Recently to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary, several of the cast sat down with Entertainment Weekly to reflect on their time from filming.
The 42-year-old actress requested that 2001’s “Fast and Furious” be rewritten. Because according to him, the character he plays doesn’t feel “deep” in the film. Another actor, Jordana Brewster, said that Rodriguez, who plays Letty Ortiz, initially refused to play the character.
“When Michelle read the role, she said, ‘No, I’m not going to play it.’ And then he changed it completely, “he said. “It changed from a girlfriend trophy to a character with many layers.”
Rodriguez wanted the writers to edit the original script to empower the characters, which he found less realistic. “It is a reality for them to realize that the streets are not like that,” explained Rodriguez.
Furthermore, he discusses the hierarchical problem implied in the film. “You don’t hang out with a guy just because he’s hot. There’s a hierarchy in there. Could that hot guy be beaten by your boyfriend? If so, then you don’t have to date him anymore, why should you lose the hierarchy?” Rodriguez explained.
Rodriguez has been very outspoken about the lack of representation of women. In June 2017, when announcing the release of F8 on a digital platform, the actress criticized the franchise and threatened to quit.
“I hope they will show love to the women in the next franchise,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “Or I might have to say goodbye to the franchise.”
