Movies: What would life be without them?
Have you ever thought how your life would be if there were no movies? You probably do not and that’s because we all accept them for granted, but we can think of movies, both the good and the bad one, will we?
Movies are one of the most common forms of entertainment in our world. This is because they allow us to escape our world and enter a different world for a few hours and give our immediate concern a rest. They enable us to travel to worlds, which we will never otherwise experience. They bring excitement and intensity of emotion that we would not otherwise have. These are all pretty good things right? And probably some of the main reasons why they are so popular.
On the other hand, films create unrealistic expectations and make unhealthy lifestyles and choices seem attractive. This is especially true for those of us who grew up in this era of technology. You see back when movies were easier, it was easier to divorce them from reality. But the special effects and computer animations create such a realism that it confuses our children. You have heard stories in the news that a child killed or seriously injured by another child because they worked out something they had seen in a movie. The other thing is that our children are exposed to hyper-intense scenes of violence, it’s surprising that more Columbines did not really happen.
And what about Hollywood’s portrayal of sex? Well, we can only say that we were all the first time we had sex. It was not nearly as smooth and well-coordinated as we saw on the silver screen every time. What happens if sex is realistically portrayed as something that can be extremely good and fulfilling, as the two people are connected to life and willing to work on it? What if the fact that there is a lot of responsibility goes with the pleasure of dealing with it? Well, many people believe that we will have very few problems with sex at its root. Teenage sex will not be so high. Unwanted pregnancies will be a much smaller problem. SOSs will not be out of control, and on and off.
So are movies good or bad? Well, the answer is both. Now the question remains, is the one bigger than the other?
