Qatar Refuses to Normalize with Israel before the Palestine Problem is Over
Windowofworld.com – Qatar refuses to normalize relations with Israel. The reason is that the reason for normalizing relations is not at the heart of the solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict which is still ongoing.
“We don’t think that normalization is at the heart of this conflict and therefore cannot be the answer,” Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Lolwah Rashid Al-Khater told Bloomberg.
“The essence of this conflict is about the drastic conditions that Palestinians experience as ‘people without a state’, living under occupation,” continued Al-Khater.
He also alluded to progress towards a solution to the crisis with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) imposing a choking blockade on Qatar since June 2017.
The diplomat praised Kuwait’s efforts to end the dispute and economic and diplomatic blockade against Doha. “In the last two months, there have been messages and messengers going back and forth,” he said.
“It’s too early to talk about a real breakthrough, but the next few weeks may reveal something,” he said.
On Tuesday (15/9/2020) Washington time, Israel together with the UAE and Bahrain signed an agreement to normalize relations in the White House, United States (US). US President Donald Trump has co-signed the pact as a witness.
Palestine has criticized the normalization of relations between Israel and the UAE as well as Israel and Bahrain as a form of betrayal of its Arab brothers against the struggle of the Palestinian people against the Israeli occupation. Iran and Turkey have also made similar criticism.
