The plane that Travis was carrying reportedly lost control while on the runway. So that the plane broke through the airport fence and left the highway and finally crashed into the embankment and caught fire. Investigators later said that the plane in which Travis was traveling had a broken tire just before takeoff.
Luckily, Travis managed to get out before the plane caught fire. At that time Travis and his partner, Adam Goldstein can jump out of the plane before exploding. However, Travis still had third degree burns as a result of the accident.
As a result, Travis spent 11 weeks in the hospital and underwent 27 skin graft surgeries. Since that incident, Travis admitted to having suffered severe trauma both mentally and physically.

“I did a lot of post-traumatic therapy while I was in the hospital to calm things down after my surgery,” Travis said. “Over time, I started to feel better.”
Reporting from Us Weekly, Travis himself has not traveled by plane since the accident that happened to him in 2008. However, he did not deny himself the courage to fly by plane if his children asked him to.
“I tell my kids, ‘When you’re ready to fly, I’m ready to fly’,” concluded Travis. “So if my son comes to me and says, ‘Daddy, let’s fly to Hawaii’ or ‘Daddy, let’s go to Australia’ then I’ll do it.”
