Teenage Mogul: Behind the scenes of ‘Americanizing Shelley’
Most girls her age is busy. There are homework, boys, fashion, music. So much to do, so little time.
It’s all on Natasha Gill’s agenda – as well as her movie. She makes history on the silver screen. That’s because it will not be enough for her to be just a star. The 17-year-old is co-operating producer of the movie, “Americanizing Shelley.”
The film tells the story of a wannabe Hollywood talent manager’s attempt to Americanize an Indian girl from the Himalayas. As he learns about the “American way of life”, they begin to see the world through each other’s eyes.
“Americanizing Shelley” seeks to eradicate the negative image that some people of the United States have, and bring together all cultures, according to its producers.
“We spend so much time criticizing America, we tend to forget how wonderful a place is … how really good and open and hot Americans can be. That’s what I want to portray my movies,” Natasha said.
Following a tone by family friend and film producer Naomi Cooper, president of American Pride Films Group, and with the help of her clinical psychologist, Natasha saw the film’s $ 5 million budget funded.
Natasha is a young woman on a mission. One day she will tell you soon, she will be governor of California and “Shelley Americanizing is part of the bigger mission. In one sense, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s progress of action hero to governor gave a roadmap for Natasha’s ambitions.
Natasha is also playing a famous role of “Yuki” as part of a veteran story that includes Beau Bridges, Namrata Singh Gujral (“Kaante”, “The Agency”). Phillip Rhys (24), Wil Wheaton (“Star Trek”) and Shaheen Khan (“Bend It Like Beckham”).
