WHO: Stop the lockdown, it will not help the fight against Covid-19
Windowofworld.com – The World Health Organization (WHO) Special Envoy, David Nabarro, called on the world to immediately lift the lockdown. He said the war against Covid-19 would not be won with tougher rules that seek to control people’s behavior.
Nabarro has warned governments around the world against imposing stricter rules, arguing that people should support the restrictions needed to slow the spread of the virus.
“This war and I think it makes sense to call it a war, against this virus, which will take place in the future, will not be won by creating stricter and harsher rules that try to control people’s behavior,” he said.
“The only way we can get out of this situation is if we can all do the right thing in the right place at the right time because we choose to do it,” he said, he continued, express on Monday (12/10/2020) .
He hopes no longer to see more people end up in hospital and dying for all to get to the point. “That all of us, all of us, must be careful about physical distance, wear masks, maintain cleanliness, isolate when we are sick and protect those who are most vulnerable,” he said.
He went on to say that locking up would make people poorer. “I want to say again that we at WHO do not recommend lockdowns as the main way to control this virus,” he said.
The man, who also served as the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy, said it was possible the poverty rate would double next year and said the effects of the lockdown were “ devastating ” to the tourism industry around the world.
“In fact this is a terrible global catastrophe. So, we strongly urge all world leaders to stop using locking as your primary method of control. Develop a better system to do this. Cooperate and learn from each other, but remember, lockdowns. it only has one consequence that you shouldn’t underestimate and that makes the poor even poorer, “he said.
